What is hypnotherapy?
The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association defines hypnosis as “an education communication process to a person’s mind that allows his/her conscious and subconscious mind to receive the same message. The process produces an altered state of consciousness through mental and physical relaxation. The critical faculty of the mind is bypassed and the subconscious openly receives the communication”.
The process of Hypnotherapy involves entering this altered state of awareness in order to change a deeply rooted habit or belief stored in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind does not doubt, judge or criticize this new message but rather accepts and stores it.

Hypnotherapy is...
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, altered state of consciousness. It is a focused and suggestive state of mind whereby the critical factor of the mind is bypassed and the subconscious becomes open to suggestions that the client is willing to accept.
Hypnotherapy via Skype is very similar to office based hypnotherapy. For more information on hypnotherapy via Skype click here.
Although the benefits of hypnotherapy have been widely recognized by the medical community for over one hundred years; misconceptions about the science of hypnosis are still in existence.
This page aims to dispel some of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis. For more information regarding Hypnotherapy, please refer to the website of The Coastal Academy of Hypnotic Arts and Science or The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association.
Can I be hypnotized against my will?
No.
Nobody can be hypnotized without their consent. If you do not wish to be hypnotized you will simply reject the suggestion & nothing will happen.
Isn’t it only a small portion of the population that can be hypnotized?
No.
Anybody with the ability to focus can be hypnotized if they are willing. There are many different approaches to hypnosis and a professional Clinical Hypnotherapist will be able to determine the most effective approach for you.
In fact, 90 - 95% of adults can be hypnotized. Some will respond more rapidly than others. In the average group, enjoying their first experience with hypnotism, about one in five will promptly enter a deep enough trance to get used on stage. There are two classes of people who cannot be hypnotized at all: those mentally incapable of focusing and infants too young to understand the words of the Hypnotherapist.
Has anyone ever stayed in hypnosis?
No.
There is not the slightest danger of this. The client, left to oneself, will eventually either emerge naturally of their own accord or they will fall into ordinary sleep and wake up normally.
Is hypnosis dangerous?
No.
An automobile is not in itself dangerous, food is not dangerous, tranquilizers are not dangerous, but all of these things, if misused, can cause harm. Hypnosis, practiced by unqualified Hypnotherapists can be dangerous.
It is perfectly safe, when used properly, by an experienced practitioner who has proper training.
Will I remember anything when I emerge from hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a unique experience for every individual. Many people report remembering everything whilst in hypnosis; however it is not uncommon for people to have only a vague recollection of the experience.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions is dependent on the client, the issue being addressed and the belief systems of the client.
Before we begin, we will have a consultation where we can discuss the most appropriate approach to take for your specific circumstances.
There are numerous reasons as to why it may take more than one session to achieve permanent results. This is very personal depending on the circumstances of the individual, their belief systems, there willingness to change and how deeply ingrained the habits are.
I typically estimate 4 - 6 sessions per issue, however some issues will require more work.
For more information, please contact Alicia directly to discuss your issue and the best approach for you.
